Women on Wheels (WoW)

In 2015, Bicycle Nova Scotia launched a program that focused on building the bicycle skills of senior women in Nova Scotia, establishing Women on Wheels (WoW) groups in several communities across Nova Scotia over the summer and early fall of that year.

In 2016 the WoW program was expanded to include women of all ages as many women contacted us to say they weren’t seniors but really wanted to join our more relaxed rides. We now include women of all ages who want to improve their cycling skills, become more confident cycling on roads, or are returning to cycling after a hiatus and prefer cycling on trails.

We are now entering our fourth year of Women on Wheels and our experience tells us that regular organized rides that are led by women encourage more women to ride, and when women ride, families do too. If you’d like to start a WoW group in your community, please contact us and we’ll help you start a group close to home.

Our goal is to have WoW groups throughout Nova Scotia, where women of all skill levels can feel comfortable joining a local group for a regular weekly ride. Becoming a member of Women on Wheels Nova Scotia means that you will be covered by the new BNS insurance plan and when you ride with any WoW NS group you will be connected with like-minded women cyclists throughout the province.

We hope you will join us for relaxed, safe, sociable rides that will include lots of laughter as you enjoy cycling in our province.

WoW groups now hold regular rides in the following communities:  Dartmouth, Halifax, Kentville, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, Musquodoboit Harbour, Truro, Pictou, Tantallon, and Woodlawn. Why don’t you help start one near you?
