Bike Light Giveaway with the Halifax Cycling Coalition

September 16 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Without lights, a person cycling is nearly invisible. As the days get shorter, more people will be cycling after dark. We don’t want you to get left in the dark.

If you ride a bike in HRM and you don’t have lights, stop by our FREE bike light giveaway station on September 2nd and 16th to get a brand new set of lights. We will be set up on the Dartmouth side of the Macdonald Bridge bike lane on September 2nd and at Victoria Park near the South Park Street bike lane on September 16th. We will be wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

The lights we will be giving away attach to your helmet and include a front and rear light in one. We will also include some educational materials in the package with the light about cycling in Halifax.

We want to make sure that cost is not a barrier to being visible at night while riding your bike. We are able to provide these lights thanks to our supporters, the Nova Scotia Department of Energy and Mines and Cyclesmith.

In the spirit of being bright at night, we are also hosting a community bike ride on September 18th where riders are encouraged to light up their bikes as brightly as possible and ride with us. There is a $30 charge for the ride and funds raised go back into the light giveaway and into our advocacy work. You can learn more and sign up online for the bike ride event here: https://cyclehalifax.ca/i-light-halifax/
