At all TT events bikes will be inspected to ensure they conform to the UCI requirements as set out in C 01, Part III of the current UCI Rules. The important aspects of these are highlighted in the extract posted. 2. At all events, there will be a "roll-out" for all competitors in the Junior categories (U17; U15; U13) to ensure they meet the Gear rations required by the CCA in the current Companion Guide (sec. 2.2.023) which is also posted. 3. At any event on the calendar a general bike check may be required but, if it is, that will be stated on the Notice for that Race. It is the rider's responsibility to be aware of any such requirement and to ensure their bicycle is, first and foremost, safe and conforms to the general equipment rules (see the UCI guide). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ April 19, 2007Minor changes to road categories in New Brunswick for 2007 race seriesAt the recent Velo NB organizers meeting it was decided to make some minor changes to the road racing categories for NB events this season. The reason for these changes was essentially to create better 'pack racing' and to avoid small categories from becoming basically 'individual time trials' or 'solo rides' after being dropped from an already small category. We feel this will 'raise the bar' for expert categories and better encourage sport categories. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ April 13, 2006Cyclesmith Cycling Club Monday Night Criterium SeriesCyclesmith Cycling Club Monday Night Criterium SeriesFast paced fun for everyone! A timed criterium style road race series, for all ages and for all abilities, which is to be held in the secured compound of Shannon Park, Dartmouth. This is a closed road course which is free of obstacles, hazards, and cars! Course length is approximately .75 km with 2 corners. This course is full street width! Three races are planned for each evening:
Riders are encouraged to challenge themselves in a group of their choosing.
Cost is $25.00 for all races in the series. No single race fees. Ride one race or ride all races! Cyclesmith Cycling Club members ride for free. Registration on race day. Gate opens at 6:00 pm for sign in and registration. Junior racers may ride any style of bike (training wheels permitted). All others will be required to ride road style bicycles. All bicycles must be in good working order. Those bicycles which are deemed to be unsafe (at the sole discretion of organizers) will not be permitted on the course. Helmets are mandatory for all riders, whether or not they are racing. No yellow line rule is necessary! Laps will not be counted and official standings will not be maintained. Number will not be issued. Dropped riders may remain on the course and are encouraged to rejoin the pack when it comes around. In the interest of sportsmanship, lapped riders shall yield to race leaders by pulling to the side of the course. No vehicle traffic will be permitted in compound. Everyone is reminded that the buildings and facilities are off limits. For safety reasons, and without exception, all people must sign in as they enter and sign out as they leave. And, if you want to get better on your mountain bike, you might want to hop on a road bike. If you're a hardcore roadie, you know what we're talking about here. Road riding is coming back bigger and stronger! Maybe the mountain bikers finally clued in that there's a certain kind of fitness that you can only get by road cycling. Or maybe they realized road cycling is pretty dam cool too (especially when you can't get into the woods until June because the entire world's alottment of snow was dumped on Nova Scotia this winter!). Check out a club or store to find out whose riding when and where. And, if you're dreaming of a yellow jersey, check out the 2004 Road Calendar. This year has the best variety of road racing that hasn't been seen in recent years. You have your pick of Time Trials, Criteriums, Road races, and even Stage races. But rather than picking and choosing which events to take part in, why not do them all! This is the year of the Road Bike in Nova Scotia.
