PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND TO HOST A NEW WOMEN'S CYCLIST ELITE TOUR

Charlottetown, December 6, 2006 -
The Confederation Bridge along with the World Cup Cycling Organization are joining forces on a 3 year commitment and are pleased to announce that a new women's cyclist elite Tour sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale will be presented on Prince Edward Island from June 10 to 14, 2007.

Updates to Velo NB Sanctioned Events Rules

In an effort to streamline the registration process and create uniformity and better quality among all Velo NB sanctioned events, the following guidelines/rules will be implemented and closely monitored and enforced beginning with the first event of the season.

These guidelines/rules will apply to road and mountain bike events and were developed/decided upon at the 2006 organizers meeting in Moncton, NB on April 2 in collaboration with the organizers present.

By adhering to these guidelines/rules organizers, commissaires, and Velo NB can assure that events start on time, podium results are ready soon after events, complete event results are posted online sooner, and season standings are available sooner as well.

In order to offer quality electronic timing, great events and quick results for both road and mountain, Velo NB requires cooperation from both organizers and racers alike on the following guidelines/rules:

• Pre-registration cut off will be 4pm the Friday before events
• All licensed riders wanting to register after the above mentioned deadline will be charged a late registration fee of no less than $15.00
• Race day registration will close one (one) hour prior to the first start of the day ($15 minimum late registration fee)
• ONLY CITIZEN category riders will be exempt from the late registration fee. Timelines will still be adhered to for Citizen category riders (i.e. 1 hour before race start deadline for registration)
• There will now be MANDATORY check in at registration on race day. Deadline for check in will be one (1) hour prior to posted/advertised start time for corresponding category
• Racers will be REQUIRED to present their license at check in.
  • Licensed riders who do not present their license will be fined $15 (commissaire to present names to Velo NB who will in turn issue the fine)
  • Riders with outstanding fines will have their license suspended until the fine is paid
• Road and MTB licensed riders will be assigned number bibs/plates that they are to use for the entire season at any Velo NB events. Riders who forget their number bibs/plates will be required to pay a $5 fee for a bib/plate for that event

We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding while we introduce these changes into the mix of things during the 2006 season. This will only improve the quality of events in New Brunswick.
