By participating in and finishing a BNS affiliated mountain bike race in Nova Scotia a racer receives points. The points are calculated based on the difference in time between the winner of the race and the individual racers times. How Many Races Count Towards the Points Series? For the 2006 XC points series the results from the best 4 out of 6 races will be counted. One must collect points from at least 3 races in a category in order to compete for an award for that category. The 2006 DH points series will be a best 3 out of 3 series. One must collect points from at least 2 races in a category in order to compete for an award in that category. Who Can Participate in the Points Series? The points series is open to all BNS members who hold a MTB racing membership. A racer may only receive an award in one category. Therefore, if a racer wishes to switch categories mid season they must forfeit the points from either their original category or the new category. Points will be tracked for members of associated cycling associations (VeloNB, CPEI, etc.), however these racers will not be permitted to receive an award at the end of the season. Although ?one event members? may collect points throughout the season they will not receive a placing at the end of the season unless they hold a valid BNS Membership. They must purchase a ?Racing? membership before the last race in order to receive a points series award.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ December 05, 2004Proposed MTB CategoriesEd Rushton, Tom Lamb and Ryan Boudreau have proposed some changes to the categories offered at BNS Mountain Bike events. Although the actual changes are minor, the categories are now presented in a format that is more easily understood. For example, BNS categories are now easily correlated with the categories and license codes offered by the CCA. Upgrade and alternate categories (i.e. when not enough people show up for a category on race day) are also listed in many cases. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ September 01, 2004Atlantic MTB Championship ResultsThe results from this past weekend's Atlantic MTB Championships in PEI have been posted on the CPEI website. Short Track Results Nova Scotia riders had some great results over the weekend!! Congratulations to Bruce Roberts on his win in the Master 30-40 Category, Jamie Lamb for his win in the Elite Men's Category, Lisa McInnis for her silver in the Elite Women's Category, Dan Pottier for his silver medal in the Master Expert 40+ Category, Scotty B for his win in the Open Expert Men's as well as Andrew Peacock with a bronze in the same category. Congrat's to Jeremy Gass who narrowly missed the podium in U17 which was the largest category of the day with 21 participants. Nova Scotia had some great success over the weekend!
