1.      Funding Review -               Blaise Landry, Sport Consultant

N.S. Department of Health Promotion and Protection

Mr. Landry was invited to the meeting to discuss provincial government funding options for BNS, particularly the application form for funding assessment as a Sport organization (rather than as a Recreation organization).  Copies of the assessment form were distributed for review.  Mr. Landry noted that BNS currently has a strong recreational component, as well as a sport component, which may affect funding options.  The assessment form is based on three main criteria: athlete development, leadership development and organizational effectiveness.  The criteria are assessed, and an overall score is determined.  Scoring is out of 1000 points.  The amount of funding for the organization is then based on the score it achieves in the funding assessment form.

Mr. Landry suggested that BNS review the process.  He will also provide information as to the funding assessment form scoring by other sport groups and what funding they receive.

2.         Strategic Planning Session

BNS Board members completed the planning session that had been started at the January Board meeting.  Laurie Cook facilitated the planning session.   This session focussed on long term goals for BNS.  The creation of long term goals is the third of the three objectives for the strategy.  Laurie will prepare a summary report on the strategic planning session.

   Timing and Results System

Ed discussed a proposal from a race organizer that BNS look into a timing and results system for downhill MTB racing.  Ed has been in contact with various race organizers and commissaires concerning this request and to see if the system would also be beneficial for road and cross-country MTB races.  The Board was not willing to accept the initial proposal due to its cost, and Ed has asked the MTB commissaires to look into less expensive approaches for downhill race timing and results.
