Blue Route Development Officer

The successful candidate:

  • Must be enrolled in a post secondary education institution in Canada.
  • Desired fields of study include urban planning, transportation planning, 
resource management, or related field. Additional desired qualities include:
  • Have strong communication and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with active transportation planning subject matter, including 
basic design of bicycle facilities
  • Knowledgeable about needs of people who bicycle.
  • Understanding of basic land use planning
  • GIS mapping skills
  • Graphic presentation skills
  • Adept at working within a team environment

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Reporting to the Director of Bikeways and Blue Route Implementation of BNS, the Blue Route Development Officer will assist with planning and development tasks, such as:

  • Wayfinding plan development;
  • Route planning, facility design, and mapping;
  • Project impact evaluations;
  • Administration of supporting program materials, such as road safety 
awareness or bicycle friendly business programs;
  • Developing bi-weekly project reports to the Director of Bikeways and Blue 
Route Implementation;
  • Delivering an end of term presentation to the Board of Directors of BNS on 
key lessons learned and recommendations; and
  • Acting as a liaison with community and trail groups throughout Nova 
Scotia.

Compensation: The hourly wage of this position is $15.00/hr.

Bicycle Tourism Marketing Officer

The successful candidate:

  • Must be enrolled in a post secondary education institution in Canada.
  • Desired fields of study include business, tourism, sport and recreation, 
planning, marketing, management, general arts or related field. Additional desired qualities include:
  • Have strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong detail orientation
  • Graphic presentation skills
  • Strong understanding of marketing, business development, and web- 
based communication, particularly in a Tourism setting
  • Adept at working independently and within a team environment

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Reporting to the Director of Bikeways and Blue Route Implementation of BNS, the Nova Scotia Cycling Tourism Marketing Officer will be responsible for executing projects related to the development of promotional materials and web resources promoting cycling tourism in Nova Scotia including:

  • Liaising with local cycling clubs to identify opportunities for visiting cyclists to join established club rides
  • The development of an interactive online map of public cycling trails
  • Developing and managing a program website for the Bike Friendly Certification Program
  • Liaising with business associations, chambers of commerce, and local tourism boards
  • Developing regional promotions and incentive packages

Compensation: The hourly wage of this position is $15/hr.

  • Canada Games Mountain Bicycle Team Manger /Mechanic/ Assistant Coach (female)
  • Canada Games Road Cycling Team Manger
  • Canada Games Road Cycling Team Mechanic

Mountain Bike Team Manger/Mechanic/Assistant Coach:

This is an approximately 2-month commitment to work with Mountain Bike Team athletes from June 2017 through to the end of Canada Games in August 2017.


The interested candidate must have:

  • Experience working with mountain bike athletes including, but not limited to: racing, travelling and skill development
  • Mechanic knowledge and repair abilities of modern mountain bikes.
  • Be in good standing with Bicycle Nova Scotia
  • Be female

Additional desired qualities include:

  • NCCP coaching certification
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Recent experience demonstration the above in conjunction with Bicycle Nova Scotia

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Canada Games MTB Manger/Mechanic/Assistant Coach include but are not limited to:

  1. Attending Canada Games during week 1 of competition (July- 27- Aug 5th)
  2. Providing mechanical support to Team NS athletes throughout Canada Games Competition
  3. Working closely with the head coaching during competition to provide coaching, administrative and logistical support.

Secondary duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Provide coaching support/guidance to finalized team during NS races/projects leading up to Canada Games
  2. Attend Canada Games staff meetings/Team pep rallies
  3. Compete administrative tasks assigned by Head Coach during the period of June 2017-August 2017

Compensation: $500 + Team NS swag, 1 cycling kit and lasting memories

Canada Games Road Cycling Team Manager

This is an approximately 2-month commitment to work with the finalized team from June 2017 thru till the end of Canada Games August 2017.


The interested candidate must have:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Caravan vehicle certificate (available online)
  • Be in good standing with Bicycle Nova Scotia

Additional desired qualities include:

  • Experience working with road cycling athletes
  • Experience managing a cycling team, project or club
  • Recent experience working with Bicycle Nova Scotia on projects or camps
  • Coaching certification

The Duties and Responsibilities of the Canada Games Manager include but are not limited to:

  1. Attending Canada Games during week 2 of competition (Aug 5th– Aug 13th)
  2. Work closely with the Road Head Coach throughout June 2017- August 2017
  3. Complete administrative duties assigned by Head Coach throughout June 2017- August 2017.
  4. Attend Canada Games staff meetings and pep rallies
  5. Attending development projects/ camps

Compensation: $500 + Team NS swag, 1 cycling kit and lasting memories

Canada Games Road Cycle Team Mechanic

This is approximately a 1 week commitment to provide mechanic support to Canada Games athletes during week 2 of Canada Games competition (August 5th- August 13th)

The interested candidates must be:

  • In good standing with Bicycle Nova Scotia
  • Have strong mechanical abilities and knowledge of modern road bicycles

Addition desired qualities include:

  • Experience providing mechanical support to cycling team
  • Recent Experience working with Bicycle Nova Scotia on projects/camps

Compensation: $350 + Team NS swag, 1 cycling kit and lasting memories
