PRESS RELEASE: "Let's Get Active" (LGA) Committee

It gives me great pleasure to announce, on behalf of NS Trails and six other committee members, the formation of a new committee; namely the "Let's Get Active" (LGA) Committee!

In a nutshell, our terms of reference will be to promote all types of human powered activities on the trails and waterways of Nova Scotia. We will do this by establishing a network of sub committee members from the various NS Trails groups and clubs. These "champions" as we refer to them will be like minded out door active enthusiasts, who like to walk, hike, bicycle, paddle, XC ski, snow shoe and the like.

It is our desire to promote these activities and events to encourage people of all ages to partake and enjoy a healthy lifestyle, for all the right reasons. We further feel this NS Trails LGA initiative will reduce health care costs, generate tourism, provide vacation opportunities and present numerous cottage and commercial industries to support the anticipated growth. We are all of the opinion; the Trails and other properties in NS represent a significant opportunity, and truly believe this is both the time and place to move human powered activities forward!

What we are not? We are not advocates for any specific cause, other than promoting the activities as described above as well as events to encourage substantial usage increases. Our mission is simple - encourage people to use the trails for human powered activities.

What we need? To fulfill our goals (pedals, paddles and footsteps on trails and waterways), we need two or three dedicated individuals to serve on the main LGA Committee as well as 45 to 60 "Champions" from all parts of NS and active disciplines, who are currently members of NS Trails or affiliates, like Hike NS, the 25 or so Trail Groups, Bicycle NS associated Clubs and the like. We would love to hear from you - contact Bob White at bikebob@eastlink.ca

This is our time; this is your chance to make a difference! Please feel free to pass this message along to your membership listings - together, we can truly move forward when we all pull the load together and in the same direction.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Bob White
