Winter training camp down south

Open Women's Cycling Training Camps

Tired of winter? Are you itchin' to jumpstart your season? National team
cyclist Anne Samplonius is running 2 training camps in New Mexico for
beginner and intermediate women cyclists, where you can enjoy the warmth
and get in a great week (or more) of miles. The camps run in March and the
end of April, immediately before the Tour of the Gila stage race. If you
are interested in taking part in the Gila stage race these camps will help
you adapt to the altitude. This is also a great opportunity to learn all
the "ins and outs" of women's cycling from a cyclist who has been
competing at the elite level for 12 years. Anne is more than willing to
share her years of experience and cram it all into a weeklong camp.

opportunity, or email: anneslam@hotmail.com

Women in Cycling!

2004 BNS Women's Development Progam!
For 2004, Bicycle Nova Scotia has developed a program to help increase participation in races by younger women, specifically the Canada Games age group. BNS will be able to offer 'Free Learn to Race Clinics' at all 2004 Races, as well as offer women in this age group 'Free License and Entry fees' at all 2004 races.

BNS is able to support our male athletes financially in male specific events like Grand Prix Cycliste de Beauce four our Under 23 male riders or Tour de L'Abitibi for Junior men. Also, we currently have a very strong male core team and we will focus our efforts at taking them to the next level of performance. Because of this, we are able to offer financial assistance to these women for this one year, with hopes of developing a strong Canada Games core team for women. The goal of this program is to lay the groundwork for future trips for our female athletes to races of the level of Beauce, Abitibi or Nationals - currently, we have very low numbers, therefore we don't have very many female athletes ready to compete at this level and must start at the grassroots level.

The staff has already has a positive response to this program, with 2 females contacting us within a week of the posters being posted around the metro Halifax area!!
